Murano Glass Chess Set
Anyone else here a fan of the game? I’ve never been on a team and I’m not going to pretend that I’m particularly great at it, but I still love a good game every once in a while. I just need to develop another strategy so that I have options other than “aggressive as fuck”.

I was never much good at chess, but I love a good game of Stratego.

I like chess... but according to the chess app on my phone, I’m a ‘novice’ in terms of my skill... which is better than being a ‘beginner’.

I like chess too. I don’t play often enough to remember strategy except in the broadest sense.

Be careful with chess, it can take up a lot more time than you expect.
Just a few weeks ago, my girlfriend found an old chess set and we’ve been playing competitively every day. Then I found an app that lets us play chess on our phones no matter where we are.
Suffice to say, it’s becoming a somewhat unhealthy addiction for us. Our biggest arguments ever have stemmed from chess strategy and unexpected checkmate moves. It can be a source of conflict but we keep going back to it on an almost hourly basis.
If the schedules align so she can drive my car at the next autocross, motorsport might be our next competitive addiction... Wish me luck :D
TL;DR: If you have friends, family, or a significant other that likes chess, it’s a great bonding experience. Just be warned, it’s easy to get competitive...

I used to play quite bit. I was in chess clubs throughout middle and high school, but opportunities like that tend to dwindle as you get older. I had a nice crystal before the house fire, but it wasn’t used often as my wife got sick of losing.

This. Funny story, when I played more often growing up, one of my brothers was so intent on beating me that he just built an entire strategy to counter mine. We had a LOT of really close games. But since his method was just based on how to beat me, he was never very good playing against anyone else.
Full of the sound of the Gran Fury, signifying nothing.

I suck at it. I used to play a bit in jr. high, but haven’t been serious about it in decades. Even the computer, on the easiest level, kicks my ass.
I never spent a lot of time or received many gifts from my paternal grandparents, but I still have two things given to by them me back in the ‘70s. One is a model of an E23 7-series they got me whilst they were on a trip to West Germany (see, I told you it was a long time ago), and the other is a small chess set. Grandpa taught me to play, and I think of him every time I stumble across that set or try to play the game again. I remember thinking that he was cheating when he did an en passant move as well as castling, moves that were a little tough for my 10 year old brain to comprehend.

I played in a club when I was really young (like 6-8 maybe) and can’t remember a damn thing about it anymore. I should get an app or something and play against my brother online.

I never did own a set. But I should get one. Instead, we played Risk in my house. We do like classic games. We play a lot of Monopoly and Sorry, and Uno.
